Opel Mantra
Named after the manta ray.
The Opel Manta is one of Opel’s most famous sporty coupes from the 1970s–80s. It was introduced by Opel (then a GM subsidiary in Germany) in 1970.
It was built to compete with the Ford Capri in Europe, which had been very successful as a stylish, affordable sports coupe and named after the manta ray, fitting Opel’s tradition of naming cars after marine life (Kadett, Rekord, Admiral, Commodore).
