1956 Citroën Le Gazauto
Daughter of Suez. Citroën Traction Type 11 B equipped with a Gazauto gas generator.

The rationing of petroleum products following the Suez Crisis in 1956 provided an opportunity to find alternative solutions to petrol. Gas-powered vehicles, which had already been used to replace petrol-powered vehicles during the war, made a come-back.
About 13,000 gas-powered vehicles were in use in France in 1955. This Citroën Traction runs on charcoal with the aid of a Gazauto gas generator patented by the engineer Louis Libault. His grandson donated the vehicle to the Mulhouse Museum in France in 2014.
