This DVD is a fairly complete compilation of the "Hot Rod" phenomena that swept post war America in the late 1940s and 1950s. Hot Rods were really a result of the entire war era. No cars were produced during World War II, so when the war ended practically everyone wanted to buy a new car. That meant that there were a lot of junk used cards kicking around. People who understood mechanics were then able to cannibalize these vehicles fairly cheaply and create their own cars to race down the street or at local racing tracks.

This DVD has some vintage documentary footage from the golden age of the era, and you get to meet some of the masters of hot rodding while they were still in their prime. There is a growing sense of community in the hot rodders lives and interestingly enough the enthusiasts position themselves as advocates of responsible driving  even when their primary goal is to drive as fast as possible. The only thing this DVD is missing is a James Dean cameo.
