Volkswagen revealed its next-generation Passat estate, confirming its move from family wagon to ski-house transport. The newly upscale wagon ("Estate" in English), will hit European dealerships by August, at a starting price of 22,900 euros ($28,000).

Buyers can pick from eight different powerplants, including the standard 1.6-liter four, a range-topping 3.2-liter V6 FSI and three TDI variants (particulate filter is standard on the 170hp version, optional on the 105 and 140 versions).
The option list includes an automatic and hydropneumatic self-levelling system for the rear suspension, a cargo management rail system in the luggage compartment floor, automatic tailgate, Dynaudio sound system, DVD radio navigation system, 12-way seats, Bluetooth phone interface plus separate keyboard and bi-xenon headlights including dynamic cornering light.
