Few sedans combine innovative technology and high performance with such landmark precision as the 2005 Acura TL. The 270-horsepower, 3.2-liter TL is an advanced study in both, from its powerful 24-valve, VTEC engine and 4-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension system, to an impressive console of sophisticated amenities, including Bluetooth wireless cell phone technology and Acura/ELS Premium 8-speaker Surround-Sound System with DVD-Audio. As with all Acura models, luxury and performance add up to miles of extreme exhilaration in the 2005 TL.

Smooth, graceful lines and class-leading power make the 2005 3.2-liter Acura TL both an object of beauty and a force to be reckoned with. An aluminum-alloy, V-6, 270-horsepower engine and 4-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension system give this high-performance sedan its true-exhilaration credentials. Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control is just one of the few attributes that endow the 2005 Acura TL with such remarkably crisp handling. And for those performance-driving enthusiasts with the most exacting standards, the A-SPEC Kit is available to satisfy your every demand.

The Acura A-SPEC kit.
The Acura A-SPEC kit is a complete dealer installed accessory package that addresses the demands of performance enthusiasts by providing enhanced handling, aggressive looks, quality and durability. The Acura TL A-SPEC kit includes a suspension package, 18-inch alloy wheels, high-performance brake pads for the automatic transmission model, an aero kit and a sport steering wheel.

The A-SPEC kit also includes 18-inch alloy wheels, which are shod with high performance AVS ES100 235/40VR18 95W Yokohama tires designed specifically for the TL A-SPEC kit.

While the 2005 TL with 6-speed manual transmission features powerful 4-piston Brembo? front brakes, the A-SPEC kit for automatic transmission-equipped models includes high-performance brake pads. The package also comes equipped with an aero kit that includes either a deck lid or rear wing spoiler.

Engine.
The 2005 TL ushers in an entirely new era of performance sedan with an advanced 3.2-liter, 24-valve, V-6 engine that produces a class-leading 270 horsepower at 6200 rpm. But there's more to this exhilarating ride than meets the eye. Like our trademark VTEC technology, which enables an impressive 238-lbs-ft of torque at 5000 rpm. And the Drive-by-Wire Throttle System? for smooth acceleration, a refined shift feel and improved performance in all driving conditions. In short, it's a performance package intent on creating moments of pure oblivion.

Transmission.
The 2005 TL is available with an automatic or manual transmission. A sophisticated 5-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission shifts with grace, or, with a quick flick of the lever into the shift gate, you can upshift and downshift for semi-automatic operation. For those who insist on calling the shots, you'll want the close-ratio, short-throw 6-speed manual transmission, which features a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) for enhanced traction during acceleration, and a Dual-Mass Flywheel for smoothness and control. The Grade Logic Control System minimizes "gear hunting" that other transmissions can encounter on steep roads and downhill stretches.

Suspension.
A rigid, four-wheel independent suspension system is what separates a serious performance sedan from the pack. But the 2005 TL takes it a step further with a double-wishbone front suspension and double wishbone rear suspension for superior pitch- and roll-resistance while accelerating, braking and cornering. The front suspension combines large bushings with extremely rigid upper arms for reduced road noise and to help absorb impact energy. And stabilizer bars in the front and rear provide additional stability for firm, controlled handling.

Control.
Stopping power is firm and precise with large 11.8-inch front (12.2-inch on manual transmission) and 11.1-inch rear disc brakes. To help maintain control in all driving conditions, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) adjusts brake pressure and engine power to help correct understeer and oversteer. For even more control, the Traction Control function works seamlessly with VSA to monitor wheel slip while accelerating or driving on slippery surfaces. Even in inclement weather, the standard Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) helps the driver maintain steering control during hard braking. For added safety, the new brake assist feature can help the driver stop promptly in an emergency braking situation.

Manual transmission models feature high-performance Brembo calipers and rotors, which are ventilated to reduce fade and increase friction and high-friction brake pads for additional braking power. Manual transmission models can also be ordered with even stickier P235/45 R17 high-performance tires.

Comfort and Convinience.
The new TL is not just a commanding performer. It's a comforting presence, offering sumptuous rewards to driver and passengers alike. The controls to all of its lavish offerings are intuitively placed within easy reach of the driver. Surround sound audio controls are conveniently mounted on the steering wheel. The Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition? will readily respond to nearly 300 commands. And a dual-zone, dual-mode automatic climate control system allows occupants to adjust their own temperature and mode settings for optimal, individualized comfort.

Seating.
From its plush, perforated leather trim to its 10-way power-adjustable driver seat, featuring a two-way lumbar support, seating in the TL is designed to enhance the driving experience. Which is why these features, along with an impressive list of others, are standard on the new TL. The driver and front passenger will enjoy heated front seats, raised bolsters and height-adjustable, arched head restraints. Rear-seat passengers are given equal consideration with their own set of climate vents and a center armrest with beverage holders. All five seating positions in the TL are equipped with three-point seat belts.

Surround Sound.
Always the innovator, the Acura TL takes advantage of the latest advancements in sound technology to be the first automobile in North America to offer Surround Sound with DVD-Audio as a standard feature. Located in-dash is a new 225-watt Acura/ELS Premium 8-speaker Surround Sound System with DVD-Audio and DTS CD 6-disc Changer, AM/FM Tuner and Dolby Cassette.

Each of the eight speakers are attuned to the acoustic interior of the TL and are strategically located for superior sound quality. Steering wheel-mounted controls allow the driver to keep both hands on the wheel while adjusting audio preferences. Models equipped with the Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition take hands-free convenience a step further with the ability to operate the audio, navigation and climate control systems using voice commands.

Climate Control.
The intuitive nature of the Automatic Climate Control system is improved with 3D Solar Sensing, which works with the navigation system to determine the location of the sun, relative to driver and front passenger, and adjusts dual-climate settings to accommodate them.

When the sun is beaming elsewhere, the system will maintain the interior temperature where you set it. Or you can choose to adjust it manually using controls on the dash. Rear-seat passengers have their own controls for the amount and direction of airflow they receive. And to be sure the circulating air is nothing short of pure, an air filtration system helps remove pollen, soot, and even bacteria as small as three microns-smaller than the width of a human hair.

Navigation.
The 2005 TL is available with the Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition, so you can find your way with a few keystrokes or a quick voice command. A large 8-inch flat screen features user-friendly controls and draws on a 48-state database to provide more than seven million points of interest. Voice Recognition uses a microphone located in the roof console to recognize up to 293 preprogrammed voice commands, such as "find nearest ATM" or "show route home." And when the vehicle is paired with a Bluetooth? mobile phone, clients can direct-dial the locations stored in the navigation system using the HandsFreeLink system.

XM Satellite Radio.
XM Satellite Radio* digitally broadcasts over 120 channels of near-CD quality music coast-to-coast. Coverage extends to anywhere within the 48 contiguous United States and includes 68 original commercial-free music channels and over 50 channels of news, weather, traffic, sports, talk and entertainment that are categorized into "neighborhoods" for easy selection. Because all channels are broadcast digitally, they are free from static and interference, even while traveling through urban canyons like New York or rural roads in the Midwest.

Power Amenities.
Within the well-appointed interior of the new TL lies a world designed solely for your comfort and convenience. From the standard keyless entry system to an automatic day/night rearview mirror that adjusts ambient light conditions to minimize distractions. The overhead console houses controls for the HomeLink System, which can be programmed to operate up to three devices, such as a garage-door opener, home security system or remote lighting system.

Hands Free Link.
HandsFreeLink replaces the hassle of handling a mobile phone while driving. This system utilizes Bluetooth technology, which transfers incoming call data to the Multi-Info Display (MID), where the driver can view incoming call details. Voice Recognition will dial stored numbers with voice command, and will even direct-dial locations stored in the navigation system. HandsFreeLink is available on Bluetooth-enabled phones that are equipped with the Hands Free Profile (HFP).

Keyless Memory Seating.
After this much time behind the wheel, you've found your sweet spot. A slight recline in your seat back. Side-mirrors centered on the horizon. And an interior climate of a comfortable 76 degrees. Which makes it all the more irritating when it's another's turn behind the wheel. Using a keyless remote, Keyless Memory Settings allows up to two drivers to store and recall their ideal seating, side-mirror and climate control preferences, in addition to light and door lock settings.

Maintenance Minder.
The Acura Maintenance Minder System coordinates oil service dates and other maintenance check-ups based on engine operating conditions, and displays timely reminders in the Multi-Info Display (MID) when maintenance is upcoming, due or overdue.

Carlos's comments

I test drove this car during the summer of 2004. I was very impressed and when I returned to test it again in the winter of the same year, I came to realize what a great little car this is, especially for the price. The features are endles and the attention to detail as well as the fit and finish is simply fantastic. A few minor things I didn't care for, like the passenger seat goes forward and backwards only (not up and down) so you tend to feel small, and I am not in love with the front grill.
