An amphibious vehicle: in response to an invitation for bids by the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces), Porsche begins to explore new terrain in 1953 with its "Jagdwagen", or "chase car".

1956 Porsche Type 597 Jagdwagen.

The Type 597 can move on land and in water, and the driver-actuated all-wheel drive works equally well on pavement and off-road.

At the Bundeswehr presentation, it is even used to help free competing bidders that became stuck in the mud.
