This 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 Messwagen measuring car is a one-of-a-kind specimen built for the testing department.
1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 Messwagen.
It is equipped with with measuring equipment too sensitive, large and heavy to record the data delivered by test vehicles during their test runs. The data was transmitted by a long cable that connected the sensors of the test vehicle with the instruments in the measuring car.

Interesting, it could have been a hearst as well...
It looks kind of like a European style hearse, the type with the exposed rear area. Pretty neat car, though. So basically it drove along side a car that was being tested, and a cable would hang between the two, data being transmitted to the above car? How odd. But I guess computers weren't what they are now.
I agree, it does look like a hearse.........testing equipment huh? WOW !
