Chances are you have no idea what the handle on your car looks like. Just like me.
It all started with an innocent walk with my wife on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon. It was a crowded street fair and everyone there had a single goal. To have fun.
I, on the other hand, while wishing the same thing, can easily get distracted, (like the film "Regrets" at Coudal by Steve Delahoye) and fell into that state of mind the instant my wife stepped into a shoe store and I was left on the sidewalk bench in front of the store, sitting next to the other two knuckelheads (and their dog) waiting for their wives.
I don't really mind this because I have found that nothing can bore me as long as I have cars to look at. In any way shape or form. When I eat at an outdoor cafe, I find the table that faces the traffic. When I sit by a window, I look for the cars that drive by. And, I don't really care what cars drive by. They are all interesting in some way. Even the ones are are falling apart.
The trouble all started when a woman drove up and double parked directly in front of my "path". The words in my head switch from, "oh shit, look at that kick-ass 2008 M3" to "holy crap, WTF, i can't see shit now".
But, instantly, I notice the car door handle on her Honda Element and once she drove off, I start looking at all the other handles that drove by.
I started looking at the depth and variety thinking it would not be long until I got bored with that, and looked for something new. There can't be that many handles I thought.
Wow was I wrong. I now had a new task. A goal, a duty if you will.
Below is the start of what is sure to kill a hugely large amount of my attention and time. here we go...

Love this post! I love the details in life that we take for granted. Usually they're so well designed that we never ask or wonder about them purely due to ease of use.
It's nice to stop and realize that they're serving a function, but more over their form that is so interesting.
Faulty door handles is really a pain in the neck. So it is necessary to do away with this easy damaged handles. This post have been so informative in its own little ways.

Fascinating! Now my question: Does anybody know what the two basic types of car door handles are called? The one that you grab from "above" and pull towards you, can be hinged or have a knob, either at the side or on the inside (see the Volvo handle above). And the other one where you grab from "below" and lift the handle (see Toyota corolla). Are there general terms for these two types?
first one is called 'Pull type outside door handle'
Second one is called 'Flap type outside door handle'

Wow, and I thought it was us who are mad about door handles! :D
I'm missing the door handles from Alfa Romeo. If there is one brand that knows how to integrate door handles into the overal design it's Alfa. Especially with the 156 model that has a "hidden" door handle for the rear and a classic styled door handle for the front doors, so it looks like a classis/modern coupe instead of a sedan.
And the slightly older models have the handles integrated in the wedge that runs alongside the car.
The door handles ruin the Nissan 350Z. They look cheap and attract way too much attention to themselves.
Where's the deLorean?
This is wonderful! Sure, you can always add more, but the consistency of the photos....that is priceless. I mean really, you could collage these and you'd have instant art. Well, in my eyes anyway. Bravo.
